Skiing in Scotland is more than just an exciting sport, it brings with it social, health and tourism benefits and no where is that more evident that at Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre which celebrated 30 years of delivery last year.
Over the years it has attracted people from all across Aberdeenshire and as far afield as South of England and Europe, to participate in Nordic Ski activity at the centre, the only one of its kind in the UK.
This week it has been confirmed that Live Life Aberdeenshire have an agreed plan of investment at Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre to upgrade the ski slope and ensure the safety of the tree landscape.
Work will begin on October 30 with works planned to take approximately five weeks.
The site will remain partially open to customers.
The planned works will ensure there is a first-class facility at Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre for the start of the skiing season and for future years.
The vision for the centre was to be a catalyst to bring people to Huntly and the Clashindarroch forest which is the best snow-holding forest in the UK, this has been delivered with roaring success.
The achievements of Olympic skiers, Andrew Musgrave, Andrew Young, PJ Barron Alex Standen and others who have competed at the European Youth Olympics have previously put it on the map.
Paralympians and the British Nordic Ski Team, have also trained at Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre over the years.
Current skiers such as Logan Duncan, Cameron Cruickshank and Jack Somerset are continuing the successful pathways gained by coming through the high-quality training and programmes delivered by Live Life Outdoors colleagues, in partnership with Huntly Nordic Ski Club.
The centre is a multi-functional facility delivering school activity days, multi-activity camps, adult training, after-school programmes, bespoke training, team building sessions, birthday parties and is a welcome place for a hot chocolate or an ice cream for locals and visitors, depending on the weather on the day!
