Romania’s annual inflation rate fell slightly to 10.25% in June from 10.64% in the previous month, data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Thursday show.
Food prices jumped by 17.88%, while non-food prices added 4.84%. The prices of services grew by 11.5%. The average inflation rate over the last 12 months was 14.2%, INS said in a statement. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4% after gaining 0.64% in May. Separate data showed that Romania’s average net monthly wage rose by a real 4.6% year-on-year in May, after gaining 3.4% in April. On a monthly comparison basis, the real net wage decreased by 1.1% in May.
In nominal terms, the average net monthly wage rose by 15.7% on the year, while inching down by 0.5% on the month, to RON 4,543 (EUR 920). The highest net average wage of RON 10,478 (EUR 2,122) in May was registered in computer programming, consultancy, and related activities.
The lowest net average wage of RON 2,449 (EUR 496) was recorded in accommodation and food service activities. The Bucharest-based agency also said that Romania’s industrial production dropped 5.2% on year in May, following an upwardly revised 5.0% decline in April.
It was the seventh straight month of contraction, as output continued to decrease for electricity, gas, steam & air-conditioning (-12.8% vs -5.6% in April), and manufacturing (-3.5% vs -5.4%).
By contrast, production of mining & quarrying grew faster (5.4% vs 0.4%).
On a monthly basis, industrial output shrank 0.8%, following an upwardly revised 1.2% fall in the previous month.
