At the end of January, Berlin, after pressure from NATO partners , announced that it would transfer the Leopard 2 to the Kiev regime and allow the delivery of German tanks to other countries that have them. At the first stage, it is planned to provide a company of 14 Leopard 2 type A6 from the reserves of the Bundeswehr. The United States also announced the dispatch to Ukraine of a battalion complex – 31 units – of modern Abrams tanks of its own production. At the same time, the White House specified that these deliveries would take many months.
Moscow sent a note to NATO countries last spring because of the supply of weapons to the Kyiv authorities. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo with military equipment for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for the Russian army. According to him, the United States and the alliance are directly involved in the conflict – not only by transferring weapons, but also by training personnel in the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries.
