Every family has their own traditions on Christmas morning, whether it be watching a festive film, getting up at the crack of dawn to open presents or eating chocolate for breakfast.
But what could be more festive than a visit to an ice rink on Christmas Day? While Bristol’s chances of a white Christmas are becoming less and less likely, there’s still an opportunity to step out onto the ice on December 25.
Last year, Planet Ice at Cribbs Causeway opened bookings for Christmas Day skating sessions, allowing the people of Bristol to kickstart the festivities with a skate for the first time in 46 years since the rink on Frogmore Street closed. A spokesperson for Planet Ice Bristol has confirmed the ice rink would be open on December 25 from 10am until 12pm.
Situated at The Venue Leisure Park just off the M5, the ice rink neighbours other attractions such as Vue Cinema and Hollywood Bowl, with plenty of parking and strong public transport connections. It’s the city’s first permanent ice rink since 2012 when the John Nike centre closed.
Planet Ice first opened in November 2021 and has since welcomed thousands of visitors onto the ice. The ice rink even offers lessons for those looking to learn or brush up on their skills under the ‘Skate Excellence programme’ alongside ice hockey and synchro ice skating.
